Project Description
Incredible Families Charitable Trust is an organisation that provides well researched, evidenced based Parent Education Training courses in the Greater Wellington Region. In a new initiative, the Trustees wish to address the challenges facing foster parents in New Zealand by providing a programme called Fostering Changes devised specifically for foster parents. Many New Zealand children are in foster care; sadly, many of these placements break down because the children have major behavioural and emotional difficulties both at home and at school because of the difficulty of their previous existence. Currently foster parents are not given in depth training in how to deal with these very troubled children, with the result that many children have multiple placements. Whilst the training they currently receive from foster placement organisations helps the foster parents with practical child management strategies, it does not cover enough training in how to restore or even create a trusting relationship with a caring adult. Incredible Families Charitable Trust is sponsoring a "training of the trainers" programme which is a twelve week programme for ten Foster parents. The cost of each program is NZ$ 15,680.25. They hope to run three programs in 2014. The Harbour City Rotary Club in Wellington is partnering with this Trust and looking for an international partner to help initiate a global grant.
