Project Description
Our club funded the building of a school in 2006 for 400 students. The school currently has 12 classrooms, and 1,492 students. The school is used during the daytime by students in Grade 1 - 10, and it is utilized in the evening by adults learning to read and write for the first time as well as adults furthering and completing their education. Our club has supplied desks, chairs and school and sports equipment to the school. We recently provided the school with 23 laptops, 4 printers, and one printer/photocopier/scanner. Donated funds by friends and family of members were used to purchase library books. A team of 5 Rotarians from our club, 4 professors, and friends and family of club members (13 of us in total) visited the school in May, 2013. During this visit the exteriors of several buildings were painted, workshops were conducted by the professors for the teachers, and other work projects were completed by the team. Going forward, we are looking to fund the building of a block of 4 classrooms for elementary students (presently being taught under trees) and for Grades 11 and 12 to enable the high school students to complete their education, and give them the opportunity to attend college or university. We are also hoping to improve the water and sanitation at the school given the growth of students since 2006.
